Colorado's I70 can be quite chaotic from time to time. From the chaotic weekends to the holiday traffic, this road never fails to stress drivers daily. In this post I will share my experience with traffic on this famous highway and what I would reccomend and advise for travel to the mountains. From my experience, every Saturday- Sunday will be very busy in the mornings and afternoons on i70 mainly because of heavy ski traffic from more people being off of work and free to ski. From what I have seen though, this is only during the peak season. I have driven plenty of weekends when the traffic has been light in early in late season (Mostly November and April- May.) I also have noticed this about i70 traffic: The more powder, the more traffic. This could be more a few reasons, one being the roads are becoming icey from snow and powder leading to traffic and accidents. The second, being more powder= better skiing. When there is a good powder day and good skiing, more people will be willing to take off of work to ski that day causing heavier traffic. I70 can be a nightmare. I have personally been stuck short of Eisenhower tunnel for over two hours with my car completely stopped. Whenever you decide to take i70 to your ski resort, be sure to stay safe and be prepared for your travels!
